NIGERIA MOVES UP 24 PLACES IN THE WORLD BANK’S ‘DOING BUSINESS’ RANKINGS

Nigeria has moved up 24 places to 145th in the World Bank’s ‘Doing Business’ report published today, and for the first time the country is recognized as one of the top 10 most improved economies in the world. The Doing Business project provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 190 economies worldwide.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, said,

“I welcome Nigeria’s improved performance. We are one of the top ten reforming economies in the world in 2017. After a decade-long decline in Nigeria’s rankings, last year the Government recorded a modest increase. This year, Mr President set us an ambitious target of moving up twenty places in the rankings – I am delighted that we have exceeded his goal.

“Improving the business environment is at the heart of the Buhari Administration’s reform agenda. We are reinforcing our economic turnaround by implementing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) so businesses operating in Nigeria can thrive and be competitive globally.

MORE INITIATIVES EXPECTED IN SECOND ROUND NATIONAL ACTION PLAN

In an expanded meeting of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, a new National Action Plan intended to drive the ease of doing business reforms in the country have been approved.

“We restate our commitment to ensuring that we deliver on the ease of doing business reforms,” Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Council Chairman said at the expanded meeting which included the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen, Deputy Governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, a member of the National Assembly, Senator Bala N’Allah, representative of Lagos State government, several ministers and representatives of the private sector at the Presidential Villa.

EXPANDED PEBEC MEETING TO APPROVE THE NATIONAL ACTION PLAN 2.0

In furtherance of the administration’s ease of doing business initiative, there will be an expanded PEBEC meeting tomorrow, Tuesday the 26th September 2017.

In attendance will be the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen. Other distinguished personalities who will be in attendance are the Governors of Lagos and Kano States respectively, His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Heads of relevant reform agencies such as the Acting Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control Force have also been invited to the session based on stakeholder feedback.

PEBEC announces preferred vendor for its monitoring and evaluation technology solution

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) on Monday announced L5 Lab, a leading indigenous venture development company, as the preferred vendor for the production and provision of technical support services for its proposed PEBEC technology solution which would empower citizens to monitor, evaluate and provide feedback on services received from government agencies.

CAC Launches 24-hour Online Registration Portal

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Monday in Abuja launched a 24-hour online registration platform to fast track its business services to its customers. Dr Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, said that the new online registration portal was developed by CAC to make registration of business easy and accessible to its clients.
